Route 04 · Six regions
Korean Confucian Academy Route
The nine seowon, private academies where Joseon scholars taught and held memorial rites for their teachers. UNESCO listed all nine in 2019 and the passport route covers exactly that set.
Taken in the published order the route covers about 862 km, and its two furthest stops sit 246 km apart. Both are straight-line figures, so real driving is longer.
It passes through seven towns: Gyeongju, Nonsan, Dalseong, Andong, Yeongju, Jangseong, Jeongeup.
Donamseowon and Dosanseowon appear on another route too, so each stamp fills a page on both.
The longest single hop is Sosuseowon to Piramseowon at 243 km. The shortest is Dosanseowon to Byeongsanseowon, 34 km apart.
Grouped so that nearby stops share a day, it works out at roughly four days of driving.
Three of the nine stops charge admission. The rest are free to enter, though some sit inside parks that charge separately.
On eight of the nine stops the stamp sits in a museum or information centre rather than at the heritage site, which matters if you turn up outside opening hours.
