What the campaign says about it

The Jeongok-ri Site (Jeongok-ri Prehistoric Site) in Yeoncheon, located in the southwestern part of the Chugaryeong Techtonic Region, have been attracting worldwide attention since the discovery of an Acheulean hand ax from the Paleolithic Period back in 1978. In fact, a large amount of Paleolithic relics have been excavated from the thick clay layer deposited on the lava plateau along Hantangang River in Yeoncheon. So far, a total of 17 excavations have been carried out across this historic site and the surrounding areas, and roughly 8,500 artifacts have been excavated. In particular, the fourth geological study of the Hantangang River and Imjingang basins, which was conducted after a survey of the Jeongok-ri Site, uncovered important Paleolithic relics from across various points along the Hantan-Imjingang basin, making the entire area a crucial resource in studying the Prehistoric culture in East Asia. The Jeongok-ri Site discovered a new aspect of the Paleolithic community’s understanding of the cultural development process of ancient humans. Scholars believe the Jeongok-ri Site have made a significant contribution to the advancement of Paleolithic research by examining exactly how the ruins and relics were created.
